Poker and Women

2009-10-12

Who said that women don’t know how to play and they don’t play poker?! They do and they play and it doesn’t matter if she is blond, brunette or ginger-haired, she still can give a head start to some men. Well, firstly it’s because she is a woman no matter what, and this is one of her advantages. Her most important weapon, whether it’s a poker table, conference table, a table in a small café or her desk at work – flirting. And mostly all men will treat her more patiently. She can pretend to be to be naïve, a bit fullish and unexperienced if she includes in her weapon a periodic fluttering of eyelashes. However, she still uses her tactics and she tries to guess the cards of her opponents and to win.

Even Desperate Housewives play poker

Of course I’m not saying anything about such famous women in the poker world who deserve to be one of the best female poker players due to their professionalism, intelligence and ability to drive out of the game even the most experienced men in poker. And still we don’t know what tactics they used in the beginning of their poker career. For instance let’s talk about Jennifer Harman. In 2000 she won her first WSOP Gold Bracelet in the championship Deuce to Seven No Limit Event, and the second one in 2002 in the Limit Hold'em tournament with a buy-in $ 5 000. Jennifer is the only woman – the owner of two WSOP bracelets.

Or Anna Duke, for example, who took part in the tournament $ 2,000 WSOP Omaha Hi-Lo and became the winner of WSOP Gold Bracelet. After winning this tournament she won a place in the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions table, where she became a winner and took home $ 2 million. Annie Duke became a poker teacher of such famous Hollywood actors like Ben Affleck and Mat Damon, who also show good results in poker. I wonder how it feels to be a poker teacher of Ben Affleck… he is such a cutie ;)

And what do you think about Annette Obrestad from Norway, who is considered to be a Cinderella of poker. For her age, Annette recently turned 21, she has already achieved very impressive results. In the main tournament with a buy-in £ 10 000 in World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) in the UK Annette became a winner and earned 1 000 000 pounds. During the tournament she defeated professional female players like Annie Duke and Jennifer Harman on the 3rd Day of the tournament. And you can’t call her a naïve girl. Annette says about herself: My style of game is aggressive. Many players know how to deal with the loose-aggressive players, because mostly people like that play online. In live tournaments, participants play tight and do crazy raises. They prefer to retreat than to play aggressively with you. And it can last for quite a long time. I take advantage of it. If you want to win you have to take risks and not to be afraid to lose the tournament. Faint heart never won fair lady! .

This list of famous women players can be quite long but the main thing, whether a woman is a loose-aggressive player or tight-passive one, above all this she is a Woman. And YES, she plays poker!

Girl Power
