The power of the RedBull

2008-11-20 • Gugster • Views:165

I never have been a fan to drinking RedBull before, except for the occasional RedBull vodka drinks. Especially not drinking RedBull when playing poker, I had a really bad experience with that a few years back when me and FlippThangThong was our second winter in Bangkok.

It was our first week, and we where sightseeing in our neighborhood 7-eleven. They really have a lot in those Thai 7-eleven stores. Not the kind of stuff we are used to have in Sweden. I doubt that you could buy dried fish or squid in any store in Sweden, or perhaps bird spit (you drink it) or seaweed (snack)… But of course they have the more usual stuff that we are used to see in our stores back home… like RedBull.

I wanted to try something different than the usual ice coffee and stuff, and I was picking up some RedBull. FlippThangThong was looking at me with a warning gaze, and said I shouldn’t drink that if I was supposed to grind that night. He had a really bad experience with RedBull and playing poker before, and that could have an effect on me to… I just laughed and put my RedBull in the basket with the shrimp snacks and Tablerone chocolate. Little did I know that it would become my worst night ever in grind history…

I don’t know, it’s something with that drink that makes me really emotional, so starting out with some badbeats and getting high on emotions wasn’t the recipe for optimal poker playing. I was divested when the night was over and the sun came back over Bangkok. I couldn’t believe what just happened… Totally freaked… I should have listened to FlippThangThong.

After that episode I was to shaken up to drink that awful drink again when grinding it out, until recently. This summer in Stockholm I noticed that coffee was not getting the effect I wanted to, so I was turning my eyes back to energy drinks again… And I must say It have been good to me. I don’t know really the difference, but I think that if you know what force/power that drink could have on you… It’s more likely to use the force for a good cause…

What is your thrill?

PS: I fell over this blog when I was googling around for other people experience about RedBull and Poker. Interesting thoughts about the relation between substance abuse and the poker community.
