On a personal note, I was in Singapore with my friend FlippThangThong in 2006, having a vacation from the chaotic and busy streets of Bangkok. We had enjoyable time with a lot of sightseeing around town and on Sentosa Island. The city is beautiful with the green environment surrounding the city skyscrapes and shopping malls. Streets are clean and everything seems to work like a swizz made clock. The nightlife was great with nice dining and a night scene that was out of this world. The only things that seem to bother us was that we couldn’t find any poker action going on in the city. When we consulted a taxi-driver it seemed that we were a little bit early. About four years to be exact. The two casinos that we had heard about before leaving wasn’t due to be finished and operational until 2010… Tilt? However, I had a very nice time and a blast in the Lion Capital of Singapore.

One day after my blog about Online Poker Asia. A news site asianone.com has an article about the Asian pacific Poker Tour (APPT) possibilities of opening up in Singapore next year. The tour President Mr Jeffrey Haas who co-founded the tournament, hopes to get licensing for the tour in Singapore at the end of 2009.

Asian Poker Network chief executive officer Vince Lau estimates that there are between 300 – 500 active poker players in Singapore, who plays regularly online at home. If the APPT and Asian Poker Tour (APT) get to play in Singapore, everyone is hoping that the poker tournaments in Singapore will boost the already growing popularity of poker. 500 poker players don’t sound like a lucrative market right now. But in a city with 4.5 million people, and as a roll model for the rest of Southeast Asia this is good news for the poker industry and poker players around the world.
