”Alea iacta est” or translated from latin to english, The die has been cast. A famous expression that was made by the great conquer and Emperor Julius Caesar, when he started his campaign against the Roman Senate. The meaning could be interpreted as the point of no return.
Anyone read Conn Iggulden book series Emperor? Great book, really.
Playing with dice has actually been popular for several centuries. Even back in the days when Julius Caesar was trying to conquer the world, playing with dices where really popular. And they actually played some sort of Backgammon as well.
My experiences have been quite limited. The strongest memory from playing with dice (craps) was coming down from a poker session at Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm after a winning session. The craps dealer was really cute looking, so I had to try my luck at the Craps table. Unfortunately the craps spirits wasn’t on my side that day, so I lost chunk from my poker session. Oh well... Never again I thought. But I say that about a lot of things, hehe.
Phil Ivey is rumored to be a very in to playing craps. He lost a lot of money on it. But is kind of addictive
Playing craps is actually feature in a lot of movies. What I can think about now its two movies, that comes to mind. Should be at least a dozens of movies, relating to casino.
Remember the part in Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man´s chest, when they are playing with dices to gamble over their working years on that spooky ship? That’s one.
And remember Nicholas Cage movie from 1998, Snake Eyes. The title says it all. Snake Eye is referred to the dices turning up one and one. Like in poker there is a crap linguistic.
