From the casino:

04 February 2010, Malta: Casinò di Venezia in Malta, confirms that at 19:34 of 03 February 2010, four hooded and armed individuals entered the casino, forcing all staff and customers to lie face down on the floor.

One of the robbers remained in reception to guard the entrance of the casino, while the other three, weapons at hand, ran upstairs to the gaming area where the cash desk is located. One of the robbers from inside the cash desk filled a red bag with the contents of the safe.

Outside the casino was a 5th person with whom they continued their escape towards the end of the waterfront where a getaway motorboat was waiting for them and the Pajero was dumped into the sea. The whole operation lasted under 4 minutes.

Once the alarm was raised, the police intervened immediately amid helicopters and boat patrols to search the area, without however achieving immediate results. Internal and external CCTV is with the police for examination. No one present was harmed.

Despite the state-of-the-art and unquestionably effective security measures in place including cameras in every corner, specialized personnel and high tech alarms, the robbers managed to organise and successfully execute this extraordinary heist.

The reactions of the croupiers during the heist could be seen in real time by customers playing on Casinò di Venezia’s online portal. However for both online operations and physical casino have today [4 February] resumed normal activities.
